I guess it depends on which end of the country you live on or which reserve you live by. Because of where we live I would say that 99.99% of the "white people" are sick and tired of the so called treaty and wish it would be tossed away and make the "native Indians" work for a living. I work with 2 people who are originally from down East and they can not believe the difference in the reserves from there to here. Not giving my political opinions just observations

Have the people who are against the treaty looked into what affect it does have on the original settlers of Canada, Sheila? I'm just learning about First Nations in Canada so just posted the article because of an earlier discussion Robert and I had about the First Nations demonstrating. I'm trying to get involved in my home state and fighting with my representatives right now because they are working against including Native American women who are abused by caucasian husbands and boyfriends in the Federal Violence Against Women Act - which provides funding for training for cops relative to abusive relationships and how to work with the abuser and abused, and for incarcerating the abusers. There is a problem with some politicians because they think that the NA courts should not have the right to bring charges against a caucasion man who harms an NA woman on the reservation. I think that is racist and that the reservation is the proper place to bring charges since the Federal Courts, which have jurisdiction for such charges at this time, refuse to bring the charges and/or don't have the personnel available to do so.
